Exposures Set to Celebrate New Young Talent in Filmmaking
Allowing students from all over the UK to showcase their work to a cinema audience, Exposures, the UK’s largest festival of student film and moving image, has produced a crucial opportunity for new talent; since the festival’s modest instalment in 1994, the event has become well known and attracts professionals in the industry as well as the public. In 2005, Exposures even created the beginning of the yearly Best of Fest DVD and have since also shown the festival’s work all over the country to ensure maximum, well, exposure. The festival has proven itself as an important stepping stone for new talent, and provides a good few days of entertainment along the way!

With a host of competition screenings in the mix, audiences can expect to vote for their favourite over two days of showings. There will also be Q&A opportunities and panel discussions within the event listing, and award winning script writer and producer Paul Abbot will be joining as this year’s patron. If you like the sound of the festival so far but are looking to set your teeth into something more, on Wednesday 22nd there will be a BBC writersroom workshop and a BAFTA masterclass in Cinematography with Erik Alexander Wilson on Thursday 23rd.
There will also be a special practical session in partnership with Cofilmic, the Manchester-based Comedy Short Film Festival, on the importance of good film and script editing. Cofilmic’s founder Janet Harrison will be one of the guest speakers along with film and broadcaster Anton Short and former BBC executive producer Michael Jacob. Those that attend can expect plenty of expert tips and examples, including ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots.
Exposures will take place at the Cornerhouse from Tuesday 21st – Thursday 23rd February 2012.
